An 18-year-old freshman student at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville was found injured in the basement of a campus dormitory, police believe he fell between two and ten stories down a trash chute.
Thomas Schwanke was found by police at 7:40 a.m., and was transported to Anderson Hospital in Maryville for treatment. Witnesses said Schwanke had been drinking earlier in the morning. Mary Rouse, Dean of Students at the university said: “The incident again raises concern about alcohol abuse on campus”.

Overall, the lead is correct, but I would get the trash chute in closer to the top. (Also, avoid comma splices: your first sentence should actually be split in two with a period, instead of the comma you have now.)
ReplyDeleteSee Stylebook for titles ("dean of students"), and remember that attribution usually goes at the end in print: "said Mary Rouse, dean of students."
